Daytona Ice Arena did a trial run of the Take A Shot At Hockey Program at the Daytona Ice Arena on Saturday, September 29th for elementary and middle school students before the program goes public.
The Take A Shot at Hockey Program is designed to introduce students to skating and the sport of hockey by giving them the opportunity to put on full gear and get a real feel for the game on the ice! Kids of the ages of 8-13 showed up at 11:30 am for registration and hit the ice at 12:30 pm.
With many kids first time on the ice, the Daytona Ice Arena coaches helped them learn the fundamentals on the ice and then incorporated hockey rules, equipment, and drills throughout the workout.
“We want to introduce kids to the sport, ice hockey with educating them through the program and give them a feel for the game by keeping them active, by promoting healthy competition and long-term wellness,” Justin Cirillo, the Director of Program Marketing & Sponsorship, said during the event.
The program will be rolled out to elementary schools in both Volusia and Flagler counties. The DIA can also tailor the event to include a STEM session along with the Take a Shot at Hockey Program. Interested? Contact joyce.coury@dmesports.com.
