Brown slams one home during his historic 45-point explosion

Mikel Brown Jr. Erupts for 45 Points, Breaks ACC Freshman Record in Louisville Win

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – DME Academy alumnus Mikel Brown Jr. put on a historic performance for No. 24 Louisville in a dominant 118–77 victory over NC State.

Brown delivered a career night, pouring in 45 points, setting a new ACC freshman single-game scoring record, surpassing the previous mark of 42 held by Cooper Flagg. His scoring explosion also tied the Louisville single-game scoring record originally set by Hall of Famer Wes Unseld on December 1, 1967.

The freshman guard was nearly unstoppable from long range, knocking down a career-best 10 three-pointers, shooting 10-of-16 from beyond the arc and 14-of-23 from the field. The 10 made three-pointers also tied an ACC freshman record, further cementing the performance as one of the greats. Brown also added nine rebounds and three steals.

“I did not know,” Brown said when asked about the Unseld record. “To be honest, I was just so locked in with just staying with it and just not having it drop off. Just maintaining my aggressiveness and my will to create for myself and for others as well.”

Brown Jr.’s breakout performance continues a meteoric rise that began at DME Academy, where he established himself as one of the nation’s premier high school guards before starring on the international stage with USA Basketball. Now, as a freshman at Louisville, he is already rewriting record books and solidifying his status as one of the most dynamic young players in college basketball.
