About Jarvis

Jarvis Gunter comes to DME Academy by way of Columbus, Mississippi. Jarvis has an extensive basketball playing and coaching background that began back in high school at Columbus High School. Gunter received numerous collegiate offers both academically and athletically, but chose to attend the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff. There, Gunter helped lead the program to its first SWAC Conference Championship in many years. In 2008, during his time with the Golden Lions, Gunter was drafted by the NBA G-League's team the Erie Bayhawks. Gunter had a long career of playing professional basketball which included several stops in the NBA G-League with the Erie Bayhawks and Springfield Armor. Gunter transitioned from player to coach soon after the conclusion of his playing career. His first coaching job as an assistant coach was with his alma mater, the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff. Gunter spent six years as an assistant coach (2013-2019) assisting with skill development, recruiting, scouting, video coordinating, managing equipment, and mentoring student-athletes. Upon his departure from Arkansas Pine Bluff, he was given an opportunity to coach with the United States Basketball Academy in Guiyang, China. Gunter's experience then led him to an invitation with the coaching staff of a talented Mississippi AAU organization, TNT 5th Quarter. There he coached numerous girls and boys teams throughout the summer before his current stop at DME Academy. In his first year, Gunter served as the Boy's High School Regional Blue Head Coach and the Housing Director at the DME Academy dorms. In his 2nd year at the Academy, Gunter transitioned over to the post grad program to coach DME PG White. Now in his third year, Gunter coaches the HS White.
