About Brandon

Brandon Benson begins his first season coaching at DME Academy as the Head Coach of the High School Gold and Blue teams, following a 7-year stint working in college basketball, including 6 seasons at the Division 1 level. Most recently, Coach Benson acted as an Assistant Coach and Offensive Coordinator for Head Coach Dee Brown at NAIA Roosevelt University in downtown Chicago during the 2022-2023 season, which proved to be a historic season for Roosevelt. Additionally, Benson had a hand in the recruitment of 3 Division 1 transfers to Roosevelt before the Lakers make the jump to NCAA Division II. Benson arrived at Roosevelt following his two years as a Graduate Assistant for Head Coach Chris Collins and the Northwestern University Men’s Basketball program in the Big Ten Conference, where he assisted the Northwestern Men’s Basketball coaching staff in day-to-day operations such as preparing scouting edits, coordinating film exchange, on-court workouts, and various practice duties, all while completing his Master’s Degree. Benson arrived in Evanston following a four-year tenure as a student manager at Middle Tennessee State University. While at MTSU, Benson was a key member of two Conference USA Championship teams under Head Coach Kermit Davis, including an NCAA Tournament victory in 2017, and served as Head Manager under Head Coach Nick McDevitt. Throughout his young career, Benson has worked with and been instrumental in the development of several elite wings and big men in both the Big Ten and CUSA, such as the University of North Carolina’s Pete Nance, Duke University’s Ryan Young, and former CUSA Conference Players of the Year and longtime pros JaCorey Williams and Nick King. In 2019, Benson was nominated and selected one of 12 student managers from across the country selected to assist in the inaugural NCAA Basketball Academy hosted by the University of Illinois. During the academy, Benson worked with over 200 high school recruits while assisting coaches across all divisions of basketball during drills and games while handling day-to-day tasks throughout the academy. A 2022 graduate of Northwestern University and a 2020 graduate of Middle Tennessee State University, Benson earned his Master’s Degree in Sports Administration at Northwestern in addition to the completion of his Bachelor’s Degree in Leisure and Sport Management at MTSU.
