About Alvaro

Alvaro Sanchez is in his 10th year at DME Academy, where he has served as the Club Technical Director, Recruiting Coordinator, and now Academy Program Director for Volleyball. He has been coaching volleyball for 22 years. Originally from Miami, Florida, Coach attended Florida International University, where he was a founding member of the Men's Club Volleyball team. His coaching journey is varied across High School, Club, and Collegiate programs, most recently at New Smyrna Beach, highlighted by 4 Elite 8 appearances and a State Championship in 2022. That same championship season, Alvaro was named Florida Dairy Farmers Coach of the Year for 6A as well as Coach of the Year by the Daytona News Journal. He has coached at the NCAA D1 level for both Florida International University and Bethune-Cookman University. Since joining the DME Academy family, Coach Alvaro’s teams have qualified for USA Volleyball Junior Nationals in 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024. Additionally, he was honored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association in 2017 with the AVCA Diversity Award.
