DME has hired Coach Steven Kenner to serve as head coach for Prep Team White during the 2019 – 2020 season. Coach Steven has a great compassion for teaching the game and his history shows it.
While serving as the Head Women’s Basketball coach at Southeastern Illinois College in 2018-2019 his team finished the season 22-10 with a home record of 13-1 and a second-place finish within the conference.
He also aided in the development of 2018-19 NJCAA All American Shamari Tyson.
During his time there, he coached six players that went on to NCAA Division I and II schools. He was also instrumental in the recruitment of Alex Pantelic, from Belgrade, Serbia, during the final games of the Men’s Basketball season.
As a former member of the University of Georgia (UGA) Men’s Basketball program, Kenner has found success on several levels. He has spent time coaching collegiately for NCAA Division II and III, and NJCAA Division I teams for almost 16 years. While at UGA, he served as the Head Manager, assisting the coaching staff with on-court player development, video scouting report, bench duties, and on-campus recruitment of student-athletes. It was during that time that he heard his calling to be a coach.
“Basketball is a great game meant for much fun, enjoyment, and a tool to inform us of our possibilities. I like to relate everything we do in basketball to life – how we handle adversity, criticism, and success. As a basketball coach, I have a vested interest in helping our student-athletes to fulfill their potential in the classroom, in the community, and on the court.
My primary role, as I perceive it, is to assist student-athletes not only to achieve but exceed their educational goals and aspirations…to encourage, nurture, and develop sportsmanlike conduct with an emphasis on academic accomplishments. In conjunction, we are providing opportunities for those driven to compete at a higher level to enhance and advance their basketball career,” Coach Steve closed with when giving some insight words on his purpose with coaching.
