DME Academy girls basketball student-athletes, Ines Goryanova and Keira Scott, have both earned spots on the prestigious ESPNW Top 100 ranking list for 2024 recruits.

Goryanova, a point guard for DME, earned the 79th ranking spot on the list. This remarkable playmaker continues to receive offers from renowned Division I programs, but she is yet to make a decision regarding her future beyond DME.

Occupying the 89th spot on the list is Keira Scott, a versatile 6’2″ wing for DME. Scott had an abundance of Division I offers to choose from but ultimately decided to commit to Syracuse University once she completes her studies at DME Academy.

With their impressive ESPNW Top 100 rankings, Goryanova and Scott add to DME’s girls basketball program’s ‘HERstory’ of developing elite student-athletes. In the class of 2022, DME Academy had two players ranked in ESPNW’s Top 100, as well. Sydney Shaw, the now starting point guard for Auburn University ranked 50th, while University of Georgia forward, Amiya Evans, earned the 66th spot.

DME Academy and Saint John’s Northwestern Academies Announce Athletic Partnership

Daytona Beach, FL – On May 25, 2023, DME Academy and St. John’s Northwestern Academies (SJNA) announced an exciting new partnership between the two academic institutions.

Starting in the 2023-24 academic year, DME and SJNA will work together to amplify the sports program at St. John’s Northwestern in Delafield, Wisconsin. The joint venture kicks off with 11-year NBA veteran Wesley Person, currently at DME Academy in Daytona, Florida, bringing the successful DME basketball academy to SJNA. This move is the beginning of what both academies expect to be a deeper relationship whereby DME Academy will lead and grow more sports programs at the SJNA campus.

“We are so excited to partner with DME Academy,” said Bob Fine, President of SJNA. “They bring an instantly recognizable sports name to boost our already strong academic and athletic programs here at St. John’s Northwestern. Together with DME, the program has never been in safer hands, and the power of the two brands will provide our student-athletes with a pathway for success both on and off the court.”

The basketball brand of St. John’s Northwestern will be on show this summer at the 2023 NBA Draft by Brandin Podziemski ’21. The Lancer great is projected to be drafted in the first round and was named the West Coast Conference (WCC) Co-Player of the Year during his time at Santa Clara University. At SJNA, Podziemski racked up over 2,000 career points, was a three-time All-State honoree, and in 2021 he earned the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association’s Mr. Basketball, along with the Wisconsin Gatorade Player of the Year.

DME Academy has quickly grown its Daytona campus from 75 to 225 full-time student-athletes over the past three years, built on a reputation for delivering a world-class experience. DME will be bringing in its elite admissions and recruiting team, which features an international arm, experienced coaches, support staff, relationships, and pathway opportunities for all student-athletes.

On the court, DME also brings with them a proven history of preparing players to excel at the top levels of the game. Just this season, DME Academy alumni Keegan Murray was drafted No. 4 overall in the 2022 NBA Draft and has broken into the scene in a huge way, smashing the all-time record for made three-pointers by a rookie with 206.

“As DME continues to grow, it’s essential to find the right partners that share our vision for providing a better experience for student-athletes. SJNA has a beautiful campus, academic success, great facilities, committed staff, and the shared belief that together we can accomplish more. We are ready to collaborate and bring the best of both institutions to the table,” stated Dan Panaggio, Founder of DME Academy.

With the new partnership, student-athletes who choose to join the “DME at SJNA” program will also have the opportunity to tap into SJNA’s 140 years of academic excellence, including dual enrollment college and AP courses, STEM curriculum, leadership development, and a top-level aviation program.

Setting the Stage: A big thank you to Kathy Wheeler, DME Academy’s Administrative Assistant for putting together an amazing presentation!

Walk down the red carpet for DME Academy’s 2023 graduation. Daytona Beach’s very own DME Academy recently hosted its much-anticipated 2023 graduation ceremony, a joyous occasion that celebrated the remarkable accomplishments and promising futures of its graduating class. With a resounding sense of pride and excitement, students, faculty, families, and esteemed guests gathered to honor the culmination of years of hard work, perseverance, and personal growth. The ceremony showcased the collective spirit of excellence that defines DME Academy and marked the beginning of a new chapter for the graduates. This year’s graduation was DME’s biggest yet with 46 seniors walking across the stage!

DME Academy’s 2023 graduation exuded an air of celebration and accomplishment. As each graduate proudly walked across the stage, adorned in their caps and gowns, their years of dedication and commitment were acknowledged and celebrated. The room was filled with applause, cheers, and tears of joy, as families and friends witnessed their loved ones receive their diplomas, a tangible representation of their academic and athletic achievement as the doors of opportunity now stand open before them.

The event was graced by the inspiring speeches of both students and guest speakers, who imparted wisdom, encouragement, and reflection to the graduating class. Dan Panaggio, CEO, and Maria Burgos, Head of School at DME Academy, emphasized the importance of embracing challenges, cultivating resilience, and nurturing a lifelong love of learning.

“Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your journey, and thank you for sharing the good, the amazing, and the difficult pieces of your chapter,” says Burgos. “I am a better person because of you. Please know that I am here as I was since the first day of September, and I will be here for you always. So now I say to you: I love you and I will see you soon. Mrs. B.”

Maria Burgos, DME Academy Head of School gives her speech.

Their words echoed throughout the auditorium, resonating deeply with both graduates and those in attendance, leaving a lasting impression that will guide the students as they embark on their respective journeys beyond DME Academy.

The graduation ceremony exemplified the rich diversity and unity that characterizes the school community. Graduates from various backgrounds, cultures, countries, and interests came together to celebrate their achievements as a collective whole. The event served as a testament to the power of inclusion, collaboration, and mutual respect. Values that are deeply ingrained in the fabric of DME Academy. This unity fostered an environment where students not only grew academically but also developed a team-like bond since sports are such a huge part of their lives at DME.

Among the notable highlights of the ceremony were the captivating speeches delivered by Baraka Okojie and Tessa Engelman, two exceptional graduates who embody the very essence of DME Academy. Baraka’s speech exuded leadership, as he encouraged his fellow graduates to take responsibility for their actions and to make a positive impact on the world around them. Tessa’s address, on the other hand, emphasized the significance of making friends from all over the world.

“What does DME stand for?” asked Engleman of the audience.  “Do More Everyday. This a perfect summary of what we all expected from this school. We all came here to be able to train more every day, get better every day, and get a little closer to our goals every day. We were right. However, what many of us didn’t expect in coming here was that we would get so much more than rigorous training and a high school diploma. We would get to meet friends from all over the world that we will have for the rest of our lives!”

Both Baraka and Tessa served as inspiring role models, showcasing the transformative power of a DME education and leaving a lasting mark on all in attendance.

As the graduates bid farewell to their alma mater, they carry with them the knowledge, skills, and values instilled by DME Academy. The 2023 graduation ceremony marked not just an end but also a new beginning—an exciting chapter in the lives of these young individuals. Armed with the strong foundation and unwavering support received at DME Academy, the graduates are now poised to pursue their passions, contribute to their communities, and make their mark on the world.
