DME High School National played in the McClay Holiday Hoops tournament this weekend finishing off with a 3-0 win claiming Holiday Champions!

DME started the tournament on Thursday playing against Franklin County and dominated with a 83-36 victory. Mame Diaw Niang had a double-double of 26 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists.

Next game, National took on Archbishop High School Friday night at 7pm to compete for a spot in the championship game.

Closing out a close game, National pulled out a 53-50 win and Niang led the team with 13 points.

Saturday afternoon, HS National suited up with host McClay High School for the championship game. Down one point at the half, National came out the second half and pressed the pedal to speed the game up.

Gaining the lead in the third quarter, HS National never looked back and closed out the game early 71-59. Niang led National again with 17 points and 9 rebounds and Mayoum Mayoum had 17 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists.

National took home the Holiday Hoops Trophy and Niang was named MVP tournament who averaged 18.6 in 3 games. Feeling the momentum of closing out the year with a tournament win, National looks forward to starting conference play!

DME Sports Academy is set to host its first annual Mauro Panaggio Invitational Tournament with the attendance of Brockport College, ST.

Joseph’s of Maine, Whittier College, and the College of Wooster.

Tipoff is set for Sunday at noon with The College of Wooster vs.

St. Joseph’s College of Maine, following Brockport College vs.

Whittier College at 2 pm.

Monday tipoff will follow the same schedule at noon and 2 pm as consultation games between the teams.

People in attendance will have the opportunity to witness talent in these Division 3 teams, including senior guard Spencer Williams who was named NCAC Player-of-the-Week on December 11 for The College of Wooster and Whittier College senior Eric Davis who was named SCIAC Athlete of the Week on December 11.

Saint Joseph’s College freshman guard Jack Casale, GNAC Rookie of the Week for the third time this season, will also be a good prospect to see this Saturday-Sunday tournament.

DME Post Grad and High School teams played ATL Combine Monday and Tuesday and finished off 5-1.

Starting off the series of games Monday afternoon, DME Post Grad White crushed ATL, 106-69, with Aiden Pashley finishing with 25 points, 4 rebounds, shooting 66 percent from the three-point line. Frank Kamgain had a triple-double of 22 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists.

DME Post Grad Blue came right behind PG White with a victory, 70-65, as Jeremiah Gilyard was a key contributor with 26 points, three rebounds, and three blocks.

DME Prep Orange set the tone for the next day with a win, 76-69, against ATL Wednesday afternoon.

Quan Byrd had 26 points and Ralph Fabius finished with a double-double of 13 points, 12 rebounds, and two steals.

DME HS Regional could not hold on to ATL Combine, 64-57. Despite the loss, Rafael Martini led the team with 19 points, 10 rebounds, and three blocks.

Next game, PG White took back control and won, 111-55, against ATL. Camren Wynter carried the team with 30 points, eight rebounds, three assists, shooting 55.5 percent from the field.

To close out, DME Blue broke ATL down in a 92-65 win Wednesday evening. Tyrese Potoma finished with 27 points, two assists, two steals, and shot 50 percent from the three-point line.

Mame Niang had a dominant performance of 34 points and 14 rebounds and DeAndre Harvey had 11 points and 6 assists.

With a team effort, hustling making some great defensive plays, DME National led the whole game, starting off with a 7 point lead in the first few minutes of the game. Harvey stepped up his game defensively, matching up with Julian Newman.

When asked how he contained Julian Newman last night, Harvey talked about “playing with a statement and living up to the hype”.[/vc_column_text][stm_images_grid image_size=”300×200″ columns=”3″ load_by=”6″ images=”6163,6164,6165,6166,6167,6168″][vc_column_text]Despite them trailing all game, Downey Christian cut the lead to 3 points, 41-38, with DME making turnovers two minutes before halftime.

Coach Mondragon stated, “we just have to stick to the game plan,” to get their team back on track for taking home a win.

Start of the second half, Niang went down with a potential ankle injury but returned to the game later after medical treatment.

“My team needed me and I had to have a tough mindset to play through it”, Niang told us after the game.

DME HS National pulled away with a nine-point lead, 95-84, and they are looking forward to proving more statements in the SIAA.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

HS National took home an exciting victory, 54-53, against Arlington Country Day that went down to the wire Tuesday night.

DeAndre Harvey scored 14 points and 5 rebounds, Nate Adcox finished with 9 points, and Marko Vukojčić scored 8 points.

HS National led most of the way, and Harvey led the offense, finishing with 5 assists.

It was a hard fought game on both ends.

After the game, Coach Mondragon celebrated the win, saying “We just found a way to win in a tough environment.

”

This was DME’s opening game in the SIAA conference play. They look forward to many more battles with SIAA being one of the toughest high school conferences in the country.

DME pulled out a close game in a double overtime thriller, 71-69.

Sophomore Brianna Raynor had a double-double with 21 points, 11 rebounds, and 4 blocks. Kyani Moore also had a double-double with 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 6 blocks.

DME Girls led at half-time, 29-24, Alexis Duckett scored 10 of her 12 points in the first half to help DME get off to a good start.

In the second half, DME led by as much as 12 points but found themselves trailing by 3 points with 0:40 seconds left when Brianna Raynor converted on a 3-point play to tie the game, which sent the game into overtime, 60-60.

Both teams only managed to score 2 points in the first overtime.

In the second overtime, Mary McMillan hit her only 3-pointer of the game to put DME up by four.

West Oaks fought back and cut the lead to 1 with 0:15 left on the clock.

After Kyani Moore made one of two free throws, West Oaks had a chance to tie and win the game with 0:08 left but Nikulochkina’s shot attempt came up short and DME prevailed with a two-point victory on the road in their first SIAA conference game of the season against a very talented West Oaks team.

DME Girl’s stepped foot on their home court to play for the first time this weekend against Impact Academy and Superior Collegiate Academy.

Saturday night, DME prevailed over Impact, 57-48, with Alexis Duckett scoring 18 points. Kyani Moore added 11 points and 9 rebounds, while Tyla Happer had 12 points. Hilani Cantone also reached double figures with 10 points. DME Girl’s started off rocky, trailing 9 points at the end of the 1st quarter.

With a team effort, hustling making some great defensive plays, they cut the lead down to 3 points at halftime, 21-18.

Despite them trailing all game, the girls pulled the game away with a 9 point lead, 57-48.

Sunday, DME Sports Academy Girl’s breezed through Superior Collegiate Academy in a dominant win, 76-32.

DME Girl’s had a team effort with all 6 players scoring at least 7 points.

Lexi Duckett led the team 24 points. Kyani Moore also trailed behind Duckett with 16 points and 6 rebounds.

Hilani Cantone also pitched in 14 points and 8 rebounds.

Mary McMillan had 7 points, 8 assists and Brianna Raynor had 8 points 10 rebounds.

With the team consisting of all sophomores, with an exception of Lexi Duckett, Kyani Moore, and Tyla Happer, the team is considered to be very young but the score didn’t show that Sunday.

They move to 4-1 in the season with a tough game at West Oaks in Orlando, FL, this Tuesday.

DME’s Post Grad White powered over Glove Prep in a dominant victory, 102-62.

Camren Wynter had an awesome performance, finishing with a triple-double, 21 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists, and 5 steals. PG White led most of the first half until the end of the first, with DME trailing five points, 44-39.

Beginning the second half, DME turned their game up a whole notch with 7 players scoring double figures. Terry Li scored 16 points and 4 rebounds, Trey Williams scored 14 points and 9 rebounds, and Charles Jones finished with 14 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals, and 1 block.

It was truly a team win, with standout player Wynter showing off his explosiveness and a number of highlight plays.

With a dominant performance from start to finish, DME showed out in a forty point victory.

On Friday night, DME Sports Academy’s High School National Team traveled to Miami to face Gulliver Prep, in an exciting overtime thriller.

Senior small forward Calvin Freeman II had a season-high of 20 points and 8 rebounds, but DME HS National fell short, 83-80, Friday night to Gulliver.

After trailing by 9 points at halftime, 44-35, DME fought back to cut the lead down to one, 51-50, with 2:30 left in the third quarter. DME got great production out of the junior PG Deandre Harvey finished with 15 points and 3 assists.

Calving Freeman had a big fourth quarter, scoring 10 of his 20 points in the fourth, also shooting 8-8 from the free-throw line.

Following a huge three-pointer by senior Mame Niang to tie the game at 73 with 21 seconds left.

Freeman sent the game into overtime with a huge block on Gulliver Preps last possession.

In overtime, Gulliver Prep raced out to a lead but the lead was cut to two after Freeman made a layup with 0:49 left.

DME would get a chance to tie the game on the final possession but Niang who finished with 12 points and 14 rebounds, three-pointer fell short at the buzzer and Gulliver Prep prevailed in a nailbiter 83-80 behind a career night from sophomore star Jamal Mashburn Jr.

DME High School National took a victory, 60-53, home against Gateway High School Thursday night.

Many things were clicking for DME throughout the game. DeAndre Harvey finished with 16 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists.

Everyone worked together and held their own, with the frontcourt and bench contributing tremendously.

Vadim Clanet had 10 points, Keano Calderon had 7 points and 2 steals, and Mame Niang had 9 points, 4 rebounds, 1 block, and 1 steal.

DME trailed close most of the game but ended the first half down 7 points. DeAndre Harvey came out the gate strong during the 3rd quarter, knocking down some big-time shots.

DME pulled away and sealed the victory, 60-53.

They look forward to bringing in another win on December 1st, 2017 in Miami, FL against Gulliver Prep.
