DME Sports Academy is proud to announce our inaugural DME Hockey Academy under the guidance of former NHL player and Stanley Cup winner Eric Perrin.
The hockey academy offers elite hockey training as well as education opportunities for players looking to grow their individual skills at a faster and more intense pace.
DME Alumni and Canisius College forward Jacco Fritz has maximized his minutes and role at forward in his first season of Division I Basketball. Netherlands native Jacco had an incredible rookie year, with three #MAACHoops Rookie of the Week honors. He is just the third Canisius player to earn this award multiple times in a season since 2006-07.
He also earned a spot on MAAC All Rookie-Team. Fritz is the 12th player in school history to earn MAAC All-Rookie Team honors. One of the highlights of Fritz season was his career-high of 16 points performance against Mercer University! He also had a career-high of 10 rebounds vs. St. Bonaventure. Fritz also is considered one of the “luckiest players” in the MAAC by growing an inch before joining the Griffs in the fall.
Before joining, Fritz played the 2018-19 season here at DME. He averaged 10.1 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game at DME. He played in 25 games in 2018-19, where he shot 64.5 percent from the field, 40.0 percent from 3-point land, and 62.8 percent from the free-throw line. Jacco is now on the campus of Canisius during this pandemic and campus shut down due to COVID-19. Jacco expressed how he didn’t want to deal with online classes and the Netherlands six hours ahead of Buffalo.
We are going Instagram Live with Jacco (Friday, May 8th @ 2 pm) on his update, family, and basketball career, and will have a Q&A from the viewers. Ask this Netherlands native all the questions, from transitioning to the USA for postgrad and from DME to college!
You can tune in here at 2pm: https://www.instagram.com/dmesportsacademy/?hl=en

DME Student-Athletes who have committed to continue their academic and athletic career at the next level!
Our DME Volleyball program is proud to announce the addition of beach volleyball to our wide array and growing list of volleyball programs. We will be working side by side to transition Elite Beach Volleyball into the DME family in 2020. A true win-win for anyone looking to play ball in the sand!
Elite Beach was born on the beaches of Daytona Beach, Florida in 2009. For the past several years they have excelled in organizing, managing, and training junior athletes to excel in sand volleyball. Since inception Elite Beach has grown from a small footprint in Daytona Beach, starting with six courts, and now has the capacity to expand up to 16 courts for training, leagues and tournaments. For the latest updates, check our beach volleyball web page.

DME Sports volleyball club director Dawn Moses is proud to announce our own in-house recreational volleyball league. “We have discovered that there is a demand for a program that provides great training for a great price but also works for players and parents not quite ready for a full club commitment,” says Director Moses. “Our rec program will feature our ‘best in the area’ club coaches as well as our club teaching and training philosophies, at a much lower price.” The league that began in March and was scheduled to end the last week of April, but we only had one week currently completed. We will pick this league up when we are able to and resume where we left off.
We do not have official word that all of the tournaments rescheduled for summer are canceled, however, we expect that to be the case.
The Mini-Club Season is geared towards young athletes who are looking to develop their fundamental volleyball skills, while being able to compete in 2-4 local tournaments. All of our mini club teams will participate in the United League which has a championship tournament in mid-October. Mini-club teams play other Florida volleyball clubs so that they can experience tournaments like competition. The goal is to put players on the path to play at more competitive levels when Spring season arrives, as well as develop their skills to assist them in making their school teams. Teams are formed by age groups and skill level. The players will practice times a week depending on the program they are placed on. Placements are currently scheduled for early August.

In September 2017, straight on the heels of Hurricane Irma, Hurricane Maria further devasted the island nation of Puerto Rico. Amidst great tragedy, a mother made the very difficult decision to send her son to Daytona Beach to live with family. When Derrick arrived as a high school sophomore, he didn’t speak a word of English but had a true passion for the game of basketball.
That is how he found DME Sports Academy.
As a commuter student, Derrick worked diligently on his English language skills and soon added other courses to his personalized learning plan. Outside the classroom, he took his raw yet very athletic basketball skills to the court and became a favorite of his teammates and coaches for his love of the game.
As his junior year began last August, Derrick became a full time Academy student athlete. As of now, his English skills have blossomed, and he is proud to be studying chemistry in English. On the court, his game is steadily improving, and he is hopes to earn a college scholarship.
In his own words, Derrick said that “I love the school, the social atmosphere, the workload, the interaction with the teachers and the students, and the flexibility to also focus on basketball.”
This week we are highlighting our student-athletes whose hard work has paid off! They will be continuing their education and basketball career at the next level!
With everything that is going on with COVID-19, DME Sports Academy has officially shut the doors. As we continue to try and flatten our curve here in Volusia County let’s take a look at some numbers:

DME Prep Blue had an impressive win against #1 ranked IMG National Post Grad. DME came out of the gates scorching hot taking an early lead. DME started the game scoring a lot of their points in transition early. The first half DME played extremely hard, shooting the ball with confidence, playing great defense and battling down low for rebounds. Keegan and Kris Murray started the game very strong doing everything on the floor from scoring, rebounding, and playing aggressive defense. Trey Fort proved to IMG that they would have a difficult time guarding him attacking the paint or pulling from 3. At the end of the first half the score was 57-39.
The second half proved to be just as entertaining as both teams came out on fire. Neither team could get a stop on the defensive end. While this played to DME’s lead it would shortly change as IMG went on a run to close out the second half. With the score all tied at 100-100, the game was headed into Overtime. In Overtime DME started out slow getting behind by 4 early. Demetrius “Meechie” Terry would quickly change this around as he took over stretches of overtime with his energy and aggressiveness, diving after loose balls and pumping up the crowd.
Keegan Murray would finish the game with 36 points and 7 rebounds. Kris Murray finished with 25 points and 15 rebounds. Trey Fort also had a great game scoring as he contributed 19 points. Dalph Panopio added 14 points on 4/6 for 3’s.
DME Black also came out with a dominant win over IMG.
DME Black came out to a strong start against IMG Post Grad shooting the ball with a lot of confidence.
Other than defense DME Black played very well together, moving the ball and finding the open teammate. Tyrese Haywood lead the team in assists with 7. “We doubled our assists to turnovers. IMG threw a 1-3-1 at us and we made adjustments at half and all of our guys were locked in. We were able to break the 1-3-1 a lot easier in the second half.” Bailey Stephanos lead the way in scoring with 23 points including 4 three-pointers followed by Jalen Dearring with 15 points.
Our DME Select Team laced up on the home floor of the Orlando Magic at the famous Amway Center. Amway gave our boys a memory to remember for the rest of their life.
HS Select Team defeated Brazil 75 – 42. Omar Alabed led the teams in rebounds and energy. Ivan Komitski scored from deep and led the team in scoring.
DME CEO, Momir Gajic accompanied the team to enjoy the moment. Coach Matt Panaggio also thanked Orlando Magic via twitter saying, “What a great experience the Orlando Magic gave to our young student-athletes.
Check out some great photos of our DME Select down below.
DME American volleyball teams played in the United League Tournament on January 11th at DME Field House. Seven of our American Teams participated and competed very well. Our Elite teams also played in the two-day Florida Winter Festival tournament. Eight of our Elite teams competed.
