BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Mikel Brown Jr. didn’t wait for tip-off to make an impact at the 2025 McDonald’s All American Games. The DME Academy senior and Louisville commit claimed the boys’ three-point contest title with a score of 28, catching fire early and closing strong in front of a packed crowd.

DME’s Mikel Brown Makes His Mark in Brooklyn

Brown knocked down 9 of his first 10 shots and finished by hitting 4 of 5 from the corner. On his final shot, he turned to celebrate with his East teammates before the ball even dropped—a confident performance from one of the most skilled guards in the country.

The McDonald’s All American Game, held annually in front of NBA scouts, media, and college coaches, is considered the premier stage for elite high school talent. All 24 players selected for the boys’ game ranked among ESPN’s top 28 seniors.

Louisville Commit with National Recognition

The 6’3” point guard from DME Academy is the second-highest ranked recruit in Louisville history during the modern era. He becomes the program’s 29th McDonald’s All American and first since 2019. In February, ESPN projected him as a lottery pick in the 2026 NBA Draft.

Brown told Louisville Sports Live that an injury shortened his senior season, but he was “100% ready to go” for All-American Week—and he’s proving it. Brown is Louisville’s 29th McDonald’s All American and the program’s first selection since 2019.

“He’s a championship point guard,” Louisville head coach Pat Kelsey said following Brown’s signing in January. “I’ve coached some great, great, great point guards; and I think Mikel is special.

From all of us at DME Academy, we’re proud to have been part of Mikel’s journey. Now, we’ll be cheering him on as he takes the next step toward greatness.

DME Academy’s Performance Program is built for athletes who want to take real steps toward improving their physical and mental game. It’s not about checking a box or going through the motions—it’s about structured, intentional development designed to make a difference on the court, field, or wherever athletes compete.

Training at DME isn’t just about lifting weights or running faster. It’s about building strength with purpose, improving mobility, increasing endurance, and reducing the risk of injury. Every athlete in the program follows a structured plan tailored to their sport, position, and individual needs. The goal is simple: help athletes move better, get stronger, and gain a competitive edge.

Alex Richard, MS, CSCS, leads the program as the Director of Sports Performance. Before joining DME, he spent five years at Southern Miss, where he worked with multiple NCAA Division I programs, including men’s basketball, women’s soccer, and football. A former college basketball player himself, Richard understands what it takes to compete at a high level, and he brings that experience into every aspect of training at DME.

Facilities matter, but follow-through matters more. At DME, athletes don’t just have access to high-level equipment and training spaces—they get expert coaching, structured progressions, and a commitment to their development. Daytona, FL –DME Academy’s 9th and 10th-grade students recently embarked on an exciting educational journey at SeaWorld Orlando’s STEM Day, an immersive experience connecting science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) to real-world applications. This hands-on STEM event reinforced DME Academy’s commitment to fostering STEM education through real-world learning experiences.

Bringing STEM to Life Through Real-World Applications

At SeaWorld Orlando, students witnessed STEM in action as they explored hydrodynamics in marine habitats, animal behavioral science, and the technology behind animal care and conservation. The experience showcased how engineers, biologists, and animal care specialists use science and technology daily to create sustainable environments for marine life.

Through interactive workshops and live demonstrations led by SeaWorld experts, students gained a deeper understanding of the connection between STEM education and career pathways. From understanding the physics of roller coasters to seeing how advanced filtration systems maintain aquatic ecosystems, they discovered how STEM drives innovation and problem-solving in diverse fields.

DME Academy’s Commitment to Hands-On STEM Education

DME Academy prioritizes experiential learning opportunities that go beyond traditional classroom instruction. Principal Stacy Atkinson, who accompanied students on the trip, emphasized the importance of real-world learning experiences:

“Our goal at DME Academy is to provide students with enriching opportunities beyond the classroom, and SeaWorld’s STEM Day was the perfect setting. It was inspiring to see them engage with hands-on learning and critically think about how STEM impacts industries they may not have previously considered.”

Inspiring Future STEM Leaders Through Interactive Learning

By bridging education and entertainment, the field trip encouraged students to think about future careers in STEM-related fields while enjoying a fun and dynamic learning environment. Seeing STEM integrated into marine science, engineering, and conservation efforts allowed students to connect their studies to real-world careers and develop a deeper appreciation for the role technology plays in shaping the world.

DME Academy remains dedicated to fostering curiosity, critical thinking, and hands-on learning experiences to equip students with the skills they need for success in STEM-focused careers.
