With Summer coming to an end, and a new school year already in session, we recently caught up with our Xceed DME Academy’s Head of School, Anna Gonzalez to learn her best tips for a successful school year.

Anna’s top 4 tips were:

  1. Make sure to get plenty of rest each night. Getting enough sleep helps reduce stress, keep the immune system working properly to avoid sickness, and keeps the mind sharp and focused.
  2. Set short, medium, and long-term goals. Setting goals gives you something to shoot for, and whether you consciously think about them or not, your brain will continue to move toward them once they’re set. To make them even more effective, write your goals down on a “goal card” and carry it with you, looking at it when you wake up, periodically throughout the day, and just before bed.
  3. Practice mindfulness. Recognizing when you’re becoming frustrated or overwhelmed allows you to take a break and then approach a problem from a different perspective or approach.
  4. Keep a positive attitude and don’t sweat the small stuff. The beginning of the year can be hectic, and there are a lot of things beyond your control, so don’t worry about them and stay positive that things will work out, in time.

The beginning of the school year is a wonderful time. It’s an opportunity to learn new things, grow and even reinvent yourself. Focusing on these key habits can set you up for short and long-term success.
