On Friday night, DME Sports Academy’s High School National Team traveled to Miami to face Gulliver Prep, in an exciting overtime thriller.
Senior small forward Calvin Freeman II had a season-high of 20 points and 8 rebounds, but DME HS National fell short, 83-80, Friday night to Gulliver.
After trailing by 9 points at halftime, 44-35, DME fought back to cut the lead down to one, 51-50, with 2:30 left in the third quarter. DME got great production out of the junior PG Deandre Harvey finished with 15 points and 3 assists.
Calving Freeman had a big fourth quarter, scoring 10 of his 20 points in the fourth, also shooting 8-8 from the free-throw line.
Following a huge three-pointer by senior Mame Niang to tie the game at 73 with 21 seconds left.
Freeman sent the game into overtime with a huge block on Gulliver Preps last possession.
In overtime, Gulliver Prep raced out to a lead but the lead was cut to two after Freeman made a layup with 0:49 left.
DME would get a chance to tie the game on the final possession but Niang who finished with 12 points and 14 rebounds, three-pointer fell short at the buzzer and Gulliver Prep prevailed in a nailbiter 83-80 behind a career night from sophomore star Jamal Mashburn Jr.
